[高橋 裕子] Yuko Takahashi

山形県新庄市に生まれ、3歳から日本舞踊を始める。
籾江道子・下田栄子に師事。ジャズダンスやフラメンコなど様々なジャンルのダンスを学ぶが、奥深い自己表現が可能なモダンダンスの魅力に惹かれて現在に至る。
積極的に舞踊コンクールに参加し、多数の教え子を上位入賞させている。
1999年から毎年仙台を中心に公演を行う。 2006年には高橋裕子舞踊団を設立。2007年、新進芸術海外研修制度にてNYに留学。2008年NY公演を行い、2010年にもＮＹ・サンフランシスコにて公演を行った。

Yuko Takahashi started her dance training in traditional Japanese dance at the age of 3. She encountered modern dance while in college and embraced it as her ultimate vehicle of expression. In 1991, Ms. Takahashi founded Yuko Takahashi Modern Ballet Academy in Sendai City in Japan. At the Academy, she focused on training young dancers to excel both in dance technique and emotional expression. Dancers trained at Yuko Takahashi Modern Ballet Academy have won numerous dance competitions in Japan including multiple first prizes at the prestigious National Dance Competitions. In 2004, Yuko Takahasi won the Best Original Choreography Award at the 19th Yokohama Competition for For the Biographies of Those Who Have Been Redeemed and the Outstanding Instructor Award at the 61st National Dance Competition presented by the Tokyo Shimbun Newspaper. In 2006, she founded Yuko Takahashi Dance Company and returned to dance performance for the first time in years. In 2007, Yuko Takahashi received an overseas study program grant from the Agency for Cultural Affairs of the Japanese government and studied dance instruction practices and choreography in New York City. The original costumes for Eternity won the Best Costume Prize in Japan in 2008. The Company collaborated with the New York-based Saeko Ichinohe Dance Company in January 2008 and Battery Dance Company led by Jonathan Hollander in July 2010 in Sendai. Under the auspices of Yuko Takahashi, the company and academy have been an active part of the reconstruction efforts of their city of Sendai, which was devastated by the Great Tohoku Earthquake & Tsunami in March 2011. They offer free performances at their studio and a local temple to share the notion that the art is an important aspect of daily life even under reconstruction.

Yuko Takahashi is a member of Contemporary Dance Association of Japan, a committee member of Japan International Dance Union and Miyagi Dance Team Confederation among other dance related organizations in Japan.

Mana Takahashi started her dance training with her mother, Yuko Takahashi at the age of 2. Her achievements include 1st prize at the 17th Kobe National Dance Competition, 1st prize at the 19th Yokohama Competition, and 2nd prize at the 61st National Dance Competition all in 2004 and 1st prize at the 1st Sendai Competition and 1st prize at the 24th Akita National Dance Festival in 2005. Ms. Takahashi entered as an only Japanese dancer in the junior division of the Contemporary Dance Division at the Seoul International Dance Competition and won the Future Prize in 2005. Ms. Takahashi performed at Japan Dance Union in Toyama and Dance Yumedoraku. Ms. Takahashi has made appearances in the dance event presented by the Agency of Cultural Affairs (2007), the 29th Contemporary Dance Festival held at the National Theater in Tokyo (2008), showcase performance at Tenri Cultural Institute of New York (2008 & 2010) and the 29th Annual Downtown Dance Festival in New York and the U.S-Japan Grass Roots Summit in San Francisco in 2010. In 2009, Ms. Takahashi won the 2nd prize after her company mate Ms. Fusako Yamada, who won the 1st prize at the Fourth Annual Dance Competition in Sendai. In 2011, she performed in the special workshop and joint performance in Japan by/for/with Tohoku Artists produced by a New York based dancer/choreographer from Fukushima, Mayuna Shimizu. As a principal member of Yuko Takahashi Dance Company, Ms. Takahashi teaches at Yuko Takahashi Modern Ballet Academy with her mother, Yuko.

Fusako Yamada joined Yuko Takahashi’s academy at the age of 5. She began entering national dance competitions as young as when she was 8 years old, and won numerous prizes including 1st prize at the 20th Yokohama Competition, 3rd prize at the Akita National Dance Festival and 3rd prize at the 17th Kobe National Dance Competition all in 2004. In the following year, Ms. Yamada received 2nd prize at the 20th Yokohama Competition. She also danced in a work produced by Izumi Kawamura in 2005 and Dance Yumedoraku. In 2009, once again, Ms. Yamada won the 1st prize at the Fourth Annual Dance Competition in Sendai. Ms. Yamada has made appearances in the dance event presented by the Agency of Cultural Affairs (2007), the 29th Contemporary Dance Festival held at the National Theater in Tokyo (2008), showcase performance at Tenri Cultural Institute of New York (2008 & 2010) and the 29th Annual Downtown Dance Festival in New York and the U.S-Japan Grass Roots Summit in San Francisco in 2010.
